Estremadura, Portugal..... Even before Romans were here, many centuries ago, the wines of the Iberian Peninsula (Iberia) were already very famous for their high quality; on the west end of Iberia, on north of Lisboa, the vineyards of Casa Santos Lima spread throughout gentle slopes of clay-limestone soils; the good sun exposition and the protection from maritime winds from nearby hills give this region excellent conditions from the production of quality wines. This wine is produced from the grapes of the varieties Tinta Roriz, Alicante, Bouschet, Castelao and Touriga Franca, through traditional fermentation methods, long maceration and oak aging. Deep garnet; notes of brambly fruit and an herbal, spicy component; fleshy with good richness and feel on the palate; medium-long but an earthy, very seductive quality wraps it all up at the end; great stuff for $10
