Aldo Rainoldi's 100% Nebbiolo IGT wine is made from young-vine fruit grown in vineyards from the Valtellina, near the towns of Poggiridenti, Tresivio, and Ponte in Valtellina. The vineyards face South and are 250 - 550 meters above sea level. The steep slopes of sandy-silty, shallow top-soil provide ideal drainage for the vines, forcing their root systems deep into the soil in search of water. Rainoldi manually harvests the fruit during the second week of October. Fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled fermentation vats. Solids are punched down and pumped over the must. Malolactic fermentation occurs until Spring. A portion of fruit is vinified untouched (not pressed). Rainoldi ages this wine in large oak barriques for a few months, then ages in bottle for 3-6 months before releasing it to market.
Very ripe notes, aromatic, licorice, earth; very unique style. Lovely...
